In 2017, I bought a Sketch notebook from a local bookstore. That ended up being my personal DIY modification journal, into which I would compile hundreds of notes on various pedal modifications. I’ve decided to make them available right here on Stompbox Electronics for anyone interested in trying them out.

Some of the ideas are completely original, while most have been influenced by contributions to popular online communities like DIYStompboxes and FreeStompboxes. Either way, all the mods featured in the articles on this site have been tested and verified, so you can be certain they will work when done properly.

BOSS – DIY Articles & Mods

BOSS pedals are intensely fun to modify – especially the analog boards with through-hole components. If you’re really interested in modifying BOSS pedals specifically, then Brian Wampler’s How to Modify Guitar Pedals is highly recommended. Most of the modifications in his book are for BOSS pedals.

BOSS SD-1 Super Overdrive

The SD-1’s simple op amp overdrive circuit makes SD-1 mods extremely common to come by. There are many features in Wampler’s book, linked above. The easiest mod has to be the C6 Mod, which I’ve written about in the post below.
