EHX Big Muff Pi Mods
Does the Big Muff Pi need an introduction? I currently provide the following modification services for the big-box version of the EHX Big Muff Pi:
- LED/True Bypass Mod
- Synergy Mod
Baseline Mods
The Baseline Mod consists of two modifications: the LED/True Bypass Mod and the Synergy Mod.
LED/True Bypass Mod
The early Big Muff Pis did not come with an indicator light. When you’re performing there’s no time to second guess whether your gear is engaged! Additionally, the bypass arrangement was not exactly true bypass. This modification converts the bypassing to full True Bypass and installs a 5mm indicator light held in a chrome bezel.
Synergy Mod
The Synergy Mod throws away the positive-tip jack and replaces it with a modern +9V negative-tip barrel jack found more commonly in today’s pedals. After this modification you will be able to energize your vintage EHX pedal with a typical BOSS PSA adapter or equivalent, effectively synergizing your Big Muff with the rest of your pedalboard.

Isolated Power Supplies
There are plenty of power supply units that carry 9VDC as an option. My recommendation is the Voodoo Labs ISO 5 for small pedalboards, and an MXR ISO Brick for medium-sized pedalboards.
