MXR Overdrive Modifications
The MXR GT-OD, Classic Overdrive M66(S) and ZW-44 are three iterations of tubescreamer-like overdrives that share a common secret: they’re basically the same!
It is well known that there is a simple slide switch inside the Classic Overdrive, GT-OD, and Zakk Wylde Overdrive models. The Zakk Wylde version is sold with the switch in one position, while the Classic Overdrive and GT-OD versions are sold with the switch in the other position.
GTOD/ZW Mod
The internal switch responsible for choosing between “Classic Overdrive Mode” and “Zakk Wylde Mode” is externalized as a toggle switch. I mount it directly to the left of the Tone knob so it’s enough out of the way.
I also offer to change the LED Color to something other than the stock Red color. Choose between Orange, Yellow, Green or Blue.
Tubescreamer-Esque Mods
Since this family of MXR Overdrives is based on the Tubescreamer, and because the Tubescreamer is such a well known circuit, I can look into applying similar mods to these MXR Overdrives. These mods would be custom, so please use the Custom Modification Request form and provide a detailed description of what you like, dislike, and want to change about your MXR Overdrive pedal.
