Line 6 DL4 Modifications
The Line 6 DL4 is a classic digital guitar effects pedal – one of the first – released at the turn of the century. It holds 15 separate delay settings, five controls for each delay, and a 14-second looper setting.
While the DL4 was a pioneer of its’ time, it lacked in one thing: reliability. The primary point of failure on these units include the footswitches, which is why I provide a service to remove the stock switches and replace them with more robust Soft-Touch equivalents.
Stompbox Electronics provides modification services for the following verified modifications on the Line 6 DL4. Since the circuit board is the same, these modifications also work on other pedals in the Line 6 4X4 line: the AM4, DM4, FM4 and MM4.
- Volume Drop Fix
- Soft-Touch Switch Replacement
- Looper Mod
- Dual Presets Mod
If the mods below aren’t what you’re looking for, you can always request a custom modification through the Custom Guitar Pedal Modification Request form.
Baseline Mods
Soft-Touch Switch Replacement
The footswitches that come stock with the Line 6 DL-4 employ spring actuators which have been a major cause for them faulting out, leaving many DL-4 owners helpless. The Soft-Touch Switch Replacement mod swaps the existing DL-4 footswitches with four (4) Soft-Touch switches to ensure robust switching capability.
Volume Drop Fix
On some DL-4 units there is a noticeable drop in volume when engaging the effect. The output volume either lacks the character of the input signal or the levels just don’t match up. The Volume Drop Fix mod alleviates this common problem by modifying the internal circuitry for both left and right stereo channels.
Looper Modification
The Looper Mod allows you to directly access the Looper functionality without having to turn the selector switch. Instead, a footswitch is added along the top side of the pedal to access Looper mode. An LED indicates whether Looper mode is activated.
Dual Presets Modification
The Dual Presets Mod allows the user to double the number of presets available on the DL4. It does this by creating two (2) “banks” and adds a footswitch to toggle between them. An LED indicating which bank you are in – Bank 1 or Bank 2 – is also added.
Note that the stock expression pedal feature can only be used when Bank 1 is engaged, since the Dual Presets mod exploits the expression pedal feature for the second bank.

Recommended Power Supply
The DL4 requires a 12VDC center-positive supply at 1000mA. You can usually find one on Reverb.
