LED Guitar Pedal Modification Board
This LED Guitar Pedal Modification Board is designed for adding an LED indicator light to a guitar pedal. Whether you’re modifying an existing pedal or DIY-ing something completely new, the Stompbox Electronics LED Guitar Pedal Modification Board makes it easy to install any 5mm LED.
Often times, when modifying pedals, it can be a hassle adding in an LED. There hasn’t been a clean way to electrically install an LED, as stringing together power and ground wiring can be tricky and, as a result, messy.
With the LED Guitar Pedal Modification Board, installing an indicator LED is simple. To power the LED, just solder in the positive voltage to one of the PWR vias. The other PWR via can be used to bring power to somewhere else in the pedal.
The grounding vias (GND) work the same way – use one via to connect to the negative side of the LED. The other GND via acts as a spare that can be used to route the GND connection elsewhere.
Where can I get SMD components for the current-limiting resistor?
The current-limiting resistor (CLR) should be a standard 0805 (0.080″ x 0.050″) SMD package. You can find them in most 0805 SMD resistor kits (Amazon). The recommended value is dependent on the voltage you use to power the indicator LED. Here are some recommended values for the CLR value:
- For 18V, a 2.2k resistor is recommended for a standard LED.
- For 12V, a 1.8k resistor is recommended for a standard LED.
- For 9V, a resistor between 1k – 1.2kOhms is recommended for a standard LED.
Where do I get support?
If you need support, you may e-mail me at stompboxelectronics@gmail.com. I try to respond to e-mails as soon as I’m able, please be patient!
Which tools will I need to build the board?
You will need solder, a soldering iron, a pair of precision tweezers for the SMD resistor.
